April Comics / cómics de abril

In April I had the chance to travel to Washington DC, a beautiful city that I’d love to visit again. Of course, as soon as I came back, I started reading last month’s comics. Ryan North has quickly become one of my favorite new writers, and his run in Fantastic Four is outstanding. Animal Pound and X-Men Forever continue to be enjoyable. First issue of Get Fury is quite promising. Avengers Twilight had some good sequences. I was especially delighted by two FCBD comics: Boom’s James Tynion IV and Fantagraphics’ Stories from the Atlas Comics. Can’t wait to read Alex Ross FF graphic novel. My favorite comic of the month was Batman Dark Age # 2, Mark Russell and Mike Allred are an amazing team, and everyone will love the brilliant portrait of Rah’s Al Ghul and Bruce Wayne, and Alfred too. And now, without further ado, here are April comics as per solicitations: 

ANIMAL POUND #3 (OF 4) (MR)

Seems he'd pulled a disappearing act: one 'Professor Richards,' a hard-luck egghead who'd somehow scored way out of his league. FANTASTIC FOUR #20

Things are NOT about to explode in everyone's faces, and this is NOT the last chance at normalcy that the FF will have for a very, very long time! With that being absolutely the case, Ben 'The Thing' Grimm and Johnny 'The Human Torch' Storm get part-time jobs to bring in some extra cash for the family - and end up getting the same job at the same location. But surely pairing a hotheaded fire guy with an exasperated rock guy is a recipe for peace, quiet and tranquility, right? And surely these two won't bring their own drama with them when working side by side, yes? Also in this issue: anagnorisis! Rated T+

En abril tuve la oportunidad de viajar a Washington DC, una preciosa ciudad que me encantaría volver a visitar. Por supuesto, apenas regresé, comencé a leer los cómics del mes pasado. April Comics / cómics de abril

Last month we only had half a dozen comics but now, lo and behold, there are over 20 comics, including quite a few FCBD books (some of which I might not have included here). So let’s start, shall we? Free Comic Book Day 2023 brought a lot of good comics (and some mediocre ones too, let’s be honest), unlike previous years, I really enjoyed the Marvel and DC books (Uncanny Avengers & Dawn of DC Knight of Terrors), 2000 AD Regened was a funny comic reimagined for children, not nearly as good as the original 2000 AD but not too bad either; Conan the Barbarian hit the right spot, and so did The Sacrificers, but the best FCBD book is actually a translation of a French comic: Animal Castle (by Xavier Dorison & Felix Delep). Danger Street and The X-Cellent continue to surprise me. I felt that the conclusion of Where Monsters Lie was a bit of a let down. I didn’t expect I would like The Ambassadors so much, issue # 3 especially, with magnificent art by Travis Charest is quite unique. And finally, I must say my favorite comic of the month is W0RLDTR33 (James Tynion IV does it again). And now, without further ado, here are April comics as per solicitations:

AMBASSADORS #2

DANGER STREET #5

El mes pasado apenas hubo media docena de cómics, pero ahora, hete aquí, hay más de 20 cómics, incluidos algunos ejemplares del FCBD (algunos de los cuales preferí no incluir aquí). In April I finally got the Captain Britain Omnibus Hardcover, a magnificent edition that includes Alan Moore’s entire run, and his first and only contribution to Marvel Comics; a true gem, this one. I got some FCBD comics, and so far the best one is The Bone Orchard Mythos Prelude. Of course, I’m still enjoying Eternals and The Human Target. The second issue of X-Cellent was quite solid. And The Nice House on the Lake was truly outstanding, however, my favorite issue of the month was the deeply nostalgic Astro City That Was Then by Kurt Busiek, Brent Anderson and Alex Ross. Technically these are not April comics, but they were in my last shipment from DCBS which included comics released in the last week of March. Anyway, like I said before, there haven’t been any new comics for the past couple of months so I guess it doesn’t really matter that much if the comics are from March or April. Anyway, let’s start with Legion of Super-Heroes, another fun issue by Bendis and Sook, Fantastic Four: Marvels Snapshots was a really nice surprise, but if I had to choose my favorite comic of the month then that would be Punisher Soviet # 6, Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows’ last issue of the miniseries is impressive. and now, without further ado, here are April comics as per solicitations:

April comics / Cómics de abril

I read a lot of amazing comics in April. After 80 years of uninterrupted publication, Detective Comics finally reached the milestone 1000th issue, and I’m glad to see that DC put together the best creative teams to pay homage to one of the greatest superheroes: Batman! The new arc of American Gods is quite promising. And, as usual, I enjoyed League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Tempest and Cinema Purgatorio. Planet of the Nerds # 1 was surprisingly good! The first issue of Section Zero was satisfactory. Conan the Barbarian, Invaders and Spider-Man Life Story continue to impress me. The conclusion of Die’s first arc was great and this was my favorite issue of the month. And now without further ado here are April comics as per solicitations:

Leí muchos cómics asombrosos en abril. Después de 80 años de publicación ininterrumpida, Detective Comics finalmente llega al emblemático número 1000, y me alegra ver que DC reunió a los mejores equipos creativos para rendir homenaje a uno de los más grandiosos superhéroes: Batman. El nuevo arco argumental de American Gods es bastante prometedor. Y, como siempre, disfruté con League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Tempest y Cinema Purgatorio. Planet of the Nerds # 1 fue sorprendentemente bueno. El primer número de Section Zero fue satisfactorio. Conan the Barbarian, Invaders y Spider-Man Life Story continúan impresionándome. La conclusión del primer arco de Die fue estupenda y este fue mi cómic favorito del mes. Y ahora, sin mayores preámbulos, ahí van los cómics de abril:
