March comic books / cómics de marzo

For the first time in almost a century, there will be no new comic books released, Diamond, the US main comic book distributor has been temporarily shutdown amid the pandemic. Fortunately, DCBS was still able to send March’s comics as well as comics that were scheduled to come out the first week of April. So that means that next month’s post about April comics will probably be the last for a while. I was very satisfied with the first issue of Marvels Snapshots and I’ll try to write a review about it, Marvels X continues to be good, and Ennis continues to amaze me in Punisher Soviet. However, my favorite comic of the month doesn’t come from Marvel but rather from DC, and I’m talking about Strange Adventures # 1, Tom King has done it again, great story and great art by Mitch Gerads and Doc Shaner. And now, without further ado, here are March comics, as per solicitations:

MARVELS X #3
(W) Alex Ross, Jim Krueger (A) Well-Bee (CA) Alex Ross. There's something hunting the last boy on Earth. Something that doesn't want him to be the cure and restoration of humanity. And no matter what Spider-Man or Daredevil or even Doctor Strange do to try to protect him, they can't save him from an entire world of monsters. Alex Ross, Jim Krueger and Well Bee continue this fantastic prequel to the EARTH X Trilogy. Rated T

PUNISHER SOVIET #4
(W) Garth Ennis (A) Jacen Burrows (CA) Paolo Rivera. Valery Stefanovich has put himself on a collision course with The Punisher. The roots of this issue go back to Afghanistan in the 1980s where Valery spent time in the Russian Special Forces and some of the most horrific things you can imagine. Things that CHANGED him. Frank and Valery have so much in common, but that never bodes well, does it? Explicit Content

PUNISHER SOVIET #5
(W) Garth Ennis (A) Jacen Burrows (CA) Paolo Rivera. Frank and Val have fought side-by-side against not only a Russian mob but also against the tide of history and these issues will make you see The Punisher (and possibly the world) differently than you do now. Explicit Content

STRANGE ADVENTURES #1
(W) Tom King (A) Mitch Gerads, Evan Shaner (CA) Mitch Gerads. After winning five Eisner Awards and topping year-end 'best of lists,' the comic book of 2019 was Mister Miracle. The comic book of 2020 will be Strange Adventures. The Mister Miracle team of writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads are joined by fan-favorite artist Evan 'Doc' Shaner to bring you an epic tale in the tradition of Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, and DC: The New Frontier-a story of blood, war, and love that readers will be talking about for years to come. Adam Strange is the hero of Rann, a man famous throughout the galaxy for his bravery and honor. After leading his adopted home to victory in a great planetary war, Adam and his wife Alanna retire to Earth, where they are greeted by cheers, awards, and parades. But not all is as happy and nice as it seems, as the decisions Adam made during battles on Rann come back to haunt his family and threaten the entire DC Universe. And now a surprise DC hero will have to choose between saving Adam Strange and saving the world. A story like no other, Strange Adventures is an ambitious, thrilling, shocking, and beautiful 12-issue saga that will push Adam Strange to the breaking point-and beyond!

SUB-MARINER: MARVELS SNAPSHOT #1
(W) Alan Brennert, Kurt Busiek (A) Jerry Ordway (CA) Alex Ross.
It begins here - a series of specials that show us Marvel's greatest characters from the Golden Age to today, all through the eyes of ordinary people! Project curator Kurt Busiek (Marvels, Astro City) has brought together an amazing assemblage of talent to bring you a total of eight new and unusual viewpoints on Marvel history and Marvel heroes, two per month for the next four months. To kick it all off, best-selling novelist and Emmy Award-winning TV writer Alan Brennert (L.A. LAW, TWILIGHT ZONE) and superstar artist Jerry Ordway (All-Star Squadron, Crisis on Infinite Earths) to tell a story of Marvel's debut superstar: Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner. It's 1946, and the boys are back from World War II. But they haven't left the battlefields behind, as reporter Betty Dean discovers when she and Namor reunite for an outing at Palisades Park, only to find themselves under attack. Also featuring the All-Winners Squad. A dramatic, unexpected and revealing tour through the Marvel Universe by a cornucopia of amazing creators. Rated T+

PUNISHER SOVIET #4
(W) Garth Ennis (A) Jacen Burrows (CA) Paolo Rivera.

TRUE BELIEVERS: EMPYRE – MAR-VELL #1
Reimpresión de Avengers (1963) # 89

TRUE BELIEVERS: EMPYRE – ANELLE #1
Reimpresión de los Fantastic Four (1961) # 37

X-MEN/FANTASTIC FOUR #2
(W) Chip Zdarsky (A / CA) Terry Dodson. DOOM ... Calificación T +

  1. The Strange Adventures one is on my list to read at some point since Tom King is one of my favorite writers working today. I'm sure that story will heavily involve PTSD as literally every King book does--including Batman.
