December Comics / Cómics de diciembre

The last month of the year came with a fine selection of comic books. The second issue of Batman Damned was quite good, and the art was beyond amazing! I’ll make sure to review it in the future. American Gods surprised me again! Millar’s first issue of Prodigy was great. And as usual, Alan Moore’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Tempest continues to be exquisite, and the same goes to Cinema Purgatorio. However, if I had to choose, the best issue of the month would be Die # 1, Kieron Gillen has done it again! And now without further ado, here are December comics as per solicitations:

AMERICAN GODS: MY AINSEL #9
(W) Neil Gaiman, P. Craig Russell (A) P. Craig Russell, Scott Hampton (CA) Glenn Fabry, Adam Brown. Shadow finds himself in hot water as the new gods make a dangerous powerplay before his eyes. The Hugo, Bram Stoker, Locus, World Fantasy, and Nebula award-winning novel and hit Starz television series by Neil Gaiman is adapted as a comic series!

BATMAN DAMNED #2
(W) Brian Azzarello (A/CA) Lee Bermejo. As Batman's descent into the madness of Gotham City's decadent underbelly continues, he must try to exorcise some of his demons…and who better to help than the Demon, Etrigan himself. And where there's demons, there's also a Deadman, a Spectre, an Enchantress and a host of other supernatural friends and foes-it's a veritable Grand Guignol!

CINEMA PURGATORIO #16
(W) Alan Moore & Various (A) Kevin O'Neil & Various (CA) Raulo Caceres. Join a master class of sequential artisans as they spin stories to terrify and delight in the finest anthology in comics. Now showing: Cinema Purgatorio by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill, A More Perfect Union by Max Brooks and Gabriel Andrade, Code Pru by Garth Ennis and Raulo Caceres, Modded by Kieron Gillen and Nahuel Lopez, and The Vast by Christos Gage and Gabriel Andrade. Each story has its own cover by the series artist and there is also an Ancient Tome Premium edition limited to 1000 copies.

DIE #1
(W) Kieron Gillen (A) Stephanie Hans, Stephanie Hans. THE WICKED + THE DIVINE writer KIERON GILLEN teams up with artist supernova STEPHANIE HANS (THE WICKED + THE DIVINE 1831, Journey Into Mystery) for her first ongoing comic! DIE is a pitch-black fantasy where a group of forty-something adults have to deal with the returning unearthly horror they barely survived as teenage role-players. If Kieron's in a rush, he describes it as 'Goth Jumanji.' That only captures a sliver of what you'll find in oversized debut issue-where fantasy gets all too real.

LOEG TEMPEST #3
(W) Alan Moore (A/CA) Kevin O'Neill. Like something from an unbelievable parallel world where there were once comic publications exclusively for girls, this third jaw-dropping installment of Moore and O'Neill's astonishing swan-song takes us from a boarding school in Big Brother-dominated England to a civic ball with a Frankenstein monster in Toyland, pausing for some 1960s pop-art espionage and a breath-taking musical interlude along the way. Concluding with a demonstration of an unusual nuclear defense system (for which the reader will require 4-D spectacles thoughtfully provided) and containing Seven Stars classic 'Showdown in Space,' you dare not miss issue three of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. IV: The Tempest. Retailers: See your order form for incentive information.

MAGIC ORDER #5
(W) Mark Millar (A/CA) Olivier Coipel. The Moonstone family team up against Albany and her assassin, The Venetian. Can Gabriel overcome the death of his child and save humanity from the forces of darkness? A war is waged between the last members of The Magic Order and the powers of evil that want them destroyed.

PRODIGY #1
(W) Mark Millar (A/CA) Rafael Albuquerque. Edison Crane's not content being the world's smartest man and most successful businessman-his brilliant mind needs to be constantly challenged. He's a Nobel Prize-winning scientist, genius composer, Olympic athlete, an expert in the occult, and now international governments are calling on him to fix problems they just can't handle.

THOR #8
(W) Jason Aaron (A/CA) Michael Del Mundo. THE PRISON OF ANGELS! After waging war in Hel, Thor finds himself a prisoner of the fearsome warriors of Heven. Can even the intervention of Valkyrie and Thor's deadly sister Angela help him escape the unescapable prison of angels? Rated T+

AMERICAN GODS: MY AINSEL #9

    1. It took a couple of hours for me to realize die is also a synonym for dice used in role playing.

    2. Exactly! It's kinda like a running joke in the story, when one character will say dice and the other one will say die.

  2. Madre mía, no conozco casi ninguno...
Me interesa Magic Order y DIE.
