Comic book conventions and Free Comic Book Days have always been activities that I would have considered unviable here in Lima, Peru. However, I’m glad to know that I can still get surprised. And indeed, today hundreds of Peruvian fans went to the first FCBD in Lima, an event organized by Peru21, and in this momentous occasion, they even prepared a very special FCBD edition, namely the Avengers special from FCBD 2009. As a curiosity I’m posting an image of the actual original issue (which I purchased through DCBS a couple of years ago) and the Peruvian edition. Do you notice any difference? I'm sure you do and I’m glad to see that production values have been high on this one, so that this South-American version can be slightly better than the US original.

El jueves en la noche fui a la presentación de joyería de Vicky Ugarte en Dédalo, conversé un buen rato con un grupo de españoles que, por esas coincidencias de la vida, resultaron ser fanáticos de los cómics. También hablé con Saúl Peña Kolenkautsky, con María Elena Fernández y, sobre todo, con Eduardo Lores, mientras nos tomábamos un pisco exquisito, puro.
Hace poco, aprovechando que tenía que ir a la Católica para acelerar los trámites de mi tesis, pasé por el museo Larco Herrera. Esta es la segunda vez que visito la muestra de huacos eróticos; la verdad es que me ha gustado tanto que estaría dispuesto a ir una tercera vez.
Y, finalmente, hoy fui al primer Día del Cómic Book Gratuito (FCBD, por sus siglas en inglés), organizado por Perú21. Había muchísima más gente de lo que hubiese esperado, a ver si para el próximo año realizan este evento en un espacio más grande. En todo caso, lo mejor del día fue recibir, efectivamente, un cómic gratuito: el Avengers publicado por Marvel para el FCBD de mayo de 2009. Como curiosidad estoy adjuntando la edición original que adquirí vía DCBS hace un par de años.
I visited Shock Gallery on Friday. There is one painting that I really like and has been in the gallery since December. Every time I go there I want to ask the price and the name of the artist, and I always forget to do so. What would Freud say about that? Other curious paintings: Wonder Woman, and especially the two works in smaller format done by my friend David Rejas, he also has a very interesting painting in the “erotic room” which I’ll post in the near future.
At lunch time I decided to go on foot to Tanta. I had an existential dilemma… should I photograph food? Of course not, we all know it’s tacky to do so. But my friend Maria Fe, who’s probably doing the same in London, has convinced me that it’s alright to do it as long as there is an artistic purpose. So, there, my lunch.

El día viernes me di una vuelta por la Galería Shock, en Barranco. Aproveché la ocasión para tomar algunas fotos de los cuadros que me parecieron más interesantes. Uno de ellos me ha llamado la atención desde diciembre, fecha en la que se inauguró la galería. Siempre tengo la intención de preguntar el precio y el nombre del artista, y siempre se me olvida. ¿Qué diría Freud sobre ese tipo de descuidos? Otros cuadros curiosos son el de Wonder Woman, seguido por dos obras de David Rejas en formato más pequeño. En la bien llamada “sala erótica” hay otro cuadro de mi amigo David, que ya comentaré en una próxima ocasión.
Después, me fui caminando hasta el Tanta de Miraflores, que está relativamente cerca de mi casa. Tuve un dilema existencial cuando el mozo me trajo el plato. ¿Le tomo foto o no? Ya todos sabemos que es de muy mal gusto fotografiar platos de comida, pero mi amiga María Fe, que supongo estaré haciendo lo mismo en Londres, me ha convencido que no hay ningún problema siempre y cuando haya fines artísticos de por medio. Así es que ahí va la foto.
