No Hard Feelings (2023) is a hilarious comedy that certainly became a bit controversial when it was released. Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games), a woman in her 30s is broke and desperate for money, and then she receives an unusual offer from a couple of concerned parents: they ask her to “date” their 19-year old son, who is a reclusive boy with zero sexual experience. However, the whole thing has to look natural, so she has to find a way to seduce the kid and convince him to have sex. Something that should be very easy turns out to be quite difficult, as they boy wants emotional intimacy before sexual gratification. One of the funniest scene takes place in a high school party in which Jennifer Lawrence enters into multiple rooms, only to find boys and girls languishing in boredom or completely distracted by their phones, “Does anyone even fuck anymore?”, brilliant line. Another unforgettable scene takes place between the woman and the 19-year old who cums accidentally and prematurely. Who knows if the new generation is having less sex than previous ones but the combination of helicopter parenting and addiction to smartphones surely makes things difficult for the kinds.
Ruben Fleischer directs Uncharted (2022). Tom Holland (The Devil All the Time) is a charming and clever thief, who is constantly wishing he could be reunited with his brother after many years of absence. He’s recruited by Mark Wahlberg (Lone Survivor), a treasure hunter who assures him that together they will find a magnificent treasure lost for centuries, in a race against time, they must compete with Antonio Banderas (Competencia oficial), who claims the treasure belongs to his family. High octane action scenes, vibrant persecutions and charming characters turn Uncharted into a fun and fast-paced movie.
January was a especially miserable month in Dublin, with very low temperatures. I had the chance to rewatch Kingsman: the Secret Service, based on the comic book series by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. It has taken me a decade to watch the sequel, Kingsman: the Golden Circle (2017), directed by Matthew Vaughn, Taron Egerton returns as the protagonist, now a more experienced spy. Old allies will resurface, such as Mark Strong, Michael Gambon and the most elegant and distinguished gentleman, Colin Firth (Devil's Knot), and also new alliances are established with Channing Tatum (Jupiter Ascending), coming from the US spy agency. This time the villain is Julianne Moore (The Room Next Door). Great action sequences, irreverent humor and unexpected details turn this into very well received sequel.
And after the sequel, we got a prequel, The King’s Man (2021), directed by Matthew Vaughn. The story takes place at the beginning of the 20th century, when British nobleman Ralph Fiennes (The Menu) and his son and only heir, Harris Dickinson (Triangle of Sadness), embark upon a unique adventure that will take them to Russia, facing the mysterious and indestructible Rasputin, masterfully played by Rhys Ifans. With the beginning of World War I, and the terrible losses and deaths in the battlefield, a devastated Ralph Fiennes must find strength where there’s none left, and hope when everything seems lost. True to the heart of original the comic series, The King’s Man is a wonderful prequel, with moments of intense emotions. The all-star cast includes Charles Dance, Daniel Brühl (Good Bye Lenin!), Matthew Goode, Gemma Arterton and Djimon Hounsou. I highly recommend the Kingsman’s trilogy!

Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games), una mujer de unos 30 años, está en la ruina y desesperada por dinero, y entonces recibe una oferta inusual de unos padres preocupados: le piden que salga con su hijo de 19 años, un chico solitario sin experiencia sexual. Sin embargo, todo tiene que parecer natural, así que debe encontrar la manera de seducir al chico y convencerlo de tener sexo. Algo que debería ser muy fácil resulta bastante difícil, ya que el chico busca intimidad emocional antes que gratificación sexual. Una de las escenas más divertidas ocurre en una fiesta de instituto en la que Jennifer Lawrence entra en varias habitaciones, solo para encontrar a chicos y chicas sumidos en el aburrimiento o completamente distraídos con sus teléfonos. "¿Alguien folla ya?", una frase brillante. Otra escena inolvidable tiene lugar entre la mujer y el chico de 19 años que accidentalmente se corre prematuramente. Quién sabe si la nueva generación tiene menos sexo que las anteriores, pero la combinación de padres sobreprotectores y la adicción a los smartphones sin duda les dificulta las cosas.

Reaparecen viejos aliados, como Mark Strong, Michael Gambon y el caballero más elegante y distinguido, Colin Firth (Devil's Knot). Además, se forjan nuevas alianzas con Channing Tatum (Jupiter Ascending), procedente de la agencia de espionaje estadounidense. Esta vez, la villana es Julianne Moore (The Room Next Door. Grandes secuencias de acción, humor irreverente y detalles inesperados convierten esta secuela en una muy bien recibida.
Y tras la secuela, tenemos una precuela, The King’s Man (2021), dirigida por Matthew Vaughn. La historia se desarrolla a principios del siglo XX, cuando el noble británico Ralph Fiennes (The Menu) y su hijo y único heredero, Harris Dickinson (Triangle of Sadness), se embarcan en una aventura única que los llevará a Rusia, donde se enfrentarán al misterioso e indestructible Rasputín, magistralmente interpretado por Rhys Ifans. Fiel a la esencia de la serie de cómics original, The King's Man es una maravillosa precuela, con momentos de intensa emoción. El elenco estelar incluye a Charles Dance, Daniel Brühl (Good Bye Lenin!), Matthew Goode, Gemma Arterton y Djimon Hounsou. ¡Recomiendo totalmente la trilogía de Kingsman!
