September comic books / cómics de setiembre

I was really looking forward to Alan Moore’s Fashion Beast # 1. I really enjoyed it and it sure deserves a review of its own (so more on that later). One of the best books of September was The Unwritten # 41, Tom Taylor has finally hit rock bottom and Mike Carey creates an intense sense of despair in this great issue. The Boys # 70 continues to surprise me. Only two issues until the end. When I wrote my “100 reasons to love comic books” in 2011, one of them was jumping in the middle of any given title without worrying about previous issues and still enjoy the hell out of it. That’s how I felt when I read Wolverine and the X-Men # 8. Finally I know why everyone was talking about the great work Jason Aaron is doing in this series. The first issue of Avengers Vs. X-Men was quite entertaining and much better than what I had anticipated. And now, without further ado, here you have September comics as per solicitations.

AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1 (OF 12)
Fans worldwide cannot miss the essential opener to the biggest pop culture comic event of the year. It's time to learn the crucial roles of the Scarlet Witch and Hope Summers before their allegiances come into question. With all eyes on Wanda and the Mutant Messiah, the Marvel Universe has become a powder keg on the verge of exploding!

BOYS #70 (MR)
On his own and out of options, Hughie resorts to extreme measures to keep himself in the game. Meanwhile, as vengeful forces close in from all around, Bradley considers a drastic step of her own- but will Stillwell allow her to get away with it? Butcher asks the big questions and Hughie finds out one last secret of his own, as The Bloody Doors Off races towards its fateful conclusion.  2 issues till the end!!!

FASHION BEAST #1
(W) Alan Moore (A/CA) Facundo Percio Alan Moore's unearthed screenplay comes to life as an incredible comic book series almost three decades later! The mid-80's were a stunning period of brilliance for Alan Moore, seeing him create true masterpieces including Miracleman, Watchmen - and Fashion Beast! Working with Malcolm McLaren (Sex Pistols), Alan Moore turned his attention to a classic re-telling of a fable through his unyielding and imaginative vision. The two developed a story that redefined Beauty and the Beast in a dystopian future city dominated by a fashion house, which Moore then fully-scripted into a huge screenplay. Never previously published, this epic work is now adapted for comics by long-time Moore collaborator, Antony Johnston (Courtyard) preserving every scrap of Moore's original dialogue. All ten issues have been lovingly illustrated by Facundo Percio (Anna Mercury) and finally a true historical and visionary masterpiece is finally released to the World! Available with a Regular or Wraparound Cover by series artist Facundo Percio or Haute Couture Incentive (by Percio) or the very rare Tarot (by Paul Duffield) Incentive cover
LOBSTER JOHNSON THE BURNING HAND #2 (OF 5)
With a city swamped in dead gangsters with claws branded into their foreheads, mob boss Arnie Wald seeks the assistance of a deadly mystic and her strange partner to take down the vigilante known as Lobster Johnson!

THE UNWRITTEN #41

Let's take a step back here and find out exactly how Tom and Richie - not to mention the world - got into the mess they're in right now. The tumultuous events of the missing year, complete with ghosts, vampires and a surprise visit from Madame Rausch, are finally revealed...

THIEF OF THIEVES #5

THE WALKING DEAD #102

The Boys # 70 continúa sorprendiéndome.

“All good things must come to an end”, goes an old saying. And damn right it is. March has been a month of endings, of last issues. We have the dramatic and action-packed finale of Kick-Ass volume 2, we also have the tragic conclusion of Luther Strode, the evocative final chapter of War of the Words in Unwritten and, above all, the last issue of Avengers the Children’s Crusade. I loved Allan Heinberg’s initial run on Young Avengers, and I waited four years for this sequel (I even asked Joe Quesada about it in Newsarama in 2007 or 2008). It took exactly four years and one month for Children’s Crusade to begin, and after almost two years, this fantastic miniseries came to an end. Seriously, I consider this the best limited series from Marvel in 2010, 2011 and the first quarter of 2012. Reading the final pages and learning the fate of Wiccan and Hulkling made me shed tears of joy. And I’m not kidding. Such a wonderful closing moment. Several titles have finished, but luckily new ones have just arrived. And I’ll definitely be talking at length about some of these new series. Meanwhile, I leave you with my March comics (as per solicitations).

Y no estoy bromeando.
