August comic books / cómics de agosto

It’s hard to believe that we are now celebrating the 20th anniversary of Kurt Busiek’s Astro City, and deservedly, this month the award for best comic goes to Astro City # 26. Hopefully, we’ll still be there for the 40th anniversary. Jupiter’s Circle and Airboy sure were a lot of fun, and Moore’s Providence was absolutely captivating. And now, without further ado, here are August comics as per solicitations:

AIRBOY #3 (of 4) (MR)
(W) James Robinson (A) Greg Hinkle. The drug, booze and sex fueled actions of JAMES ROBINSON and GREG HINKLE have pushed Airboy to the brink. And, in order to straighten these two degenerates out, he's taken them to his world: a steampunk arena of Allies vs. Nazis. But will the experience change James and Greg for the better? Will they finally see the light? Or will they corrupt this world too?

ASTRO CITY #26
(W) Kurt Busiek (A) Brent Eric Anderson (CA) Alex Ross. It's the big 20th anniversary issue! It all began in 1995 with a look at Samaritan's dreams of flight. But what's Samaritan dreaming about now-and how will it affect Astro City's future? This self-contained issue features a host of Astro City characters, setting the stage for major developments to come. Whether you're new to the book or you've been reading all along, this issue is not to be missed.

JUPITER'S CIRCLE #5 (MR)
(W) Mark Millar (A) Davide Gianfelice (CA) Frank Quitely. To be announced.

PHONOGRAM: THE IMMATERIAL GIRL #1
(W) Kieron Gillen (A/CA) Jamie McKelvie. The team behind the New York Times bestselling and Eisner-nominated smash hit THE WICKED + THE DIVINE return to the acclaimed urban-fantasy where they first made their names. Nearly a decade ago, Emily Aster sold half her personality for the power to rule a coven of phonomancers. I'm sure nothing could go horribly, monstrously wrong now. In a world where Music is Magic, a song can save or ruin your life. In THE IMMATERIAL GIRL, we discover what a video can do.

PROVIDENCE #3 (of 12) Dreamscape Wrap Cvr (MR)
(W) Alan Moore (A/CA) Jacen Burrows. In this super-sized, ad-free, third issue, Alan Moore continues to re-define horror in this amazing tome of Lovecraftian influenced nightmares. Providence is an amazing and unique work where Moore has written every cover, every single page, and every nuance of this work to create his most fully-realized vision to date. In this issue, 'A Lurking Fear', Robert Black visits the Bogg's Refinery in Salem and is introduced to some most peculiar-looking local folks. And a few denizens with very bad intentions. Available with Regular, Pantheon, Portrait, Dreamscape Wraparound, Women of HPL, and a special Ancient Tome Incentive cover, all by collaborator Jacen Burrows.

SHADOW VOL. 2 #1
(W) Cullen Bunn (A) Giovanni Timpano (CA) Jackson Guice. A ruthless cabal of magicians is searching for the secret to the Last Illusion, and they'll stop at nothing to achieve their goals. But the person who knew the most about the mysterious rite is dead, and he shared his secret with one man -- the Shadow!

AIRBOY #3 (of 4) (MR)

JUPITER'S CIRCLE #5
 (W) Mark Millar (A) Wilfredo Torres (CA) Frank Quitely.

PHONOGRAM: THE IMMATERIAL GIRL #1

PROVIDENCE #3 (of 12) (MR)

WE STAND ON GUARD #2 (MR)

The Unwritten Apocalypse # 9 was probably my favorite issue of the month. But September had plenty of good stuff. Silver Surfer continues to amuse me like no other Marvel title, The Wicked + The Divine and MPH are just as good as ever; the second chapter of Terminal Hero is quite an improvement compared to the first one. And I also had fun reading the special 75 years anniversary Marvel magazine! So without further ado, here are September comics as per solicitations.

(W) Kieron Gillen (A) Jamie McKelvie, Matthew Wilson (CA) Matthew Wilson, Jamie McKelvie. The mystery is solved. But does pop-god Lucifer like the answer?

NEW TEEN TITANS TP VOL 01
Nuevos Jóvenes Titanes #1-8. Por Marv Wolfman & George Perez.

SILVER SURFER #5

TERMINAL HERO #2
Portada: Jae Lee Escritor: Peter Milligan Artw: Piotr Kowalski.

X-MEN TP ASGARDIAN WARS NEW PTG
Chris Claremont, Paul Smith & Arthur Adams

Y THE LAST MAN TP BOOK 01 (MR)
Y The Last Man #1-10. Por Brian K. Vaughan, Pia Guerra & José Marzan
