When an artificial object of gigantic proportions gets closer to Earth, the Archeologists of the Impossible decide that a full investigation is in order. Unprepared for interstellar travels, Snow and his colleagues must recruit a trio of strange and powerful creatures called “angels”. Artist John Cassaday creates a group of melancholic aliens, visibly extraterrestrial in their features, but at the same time frighteningly human in their attitudes and expressions. Kept in a cage and fed with information 24/7, these “angels” have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. It’s because of this insatiable need that Snow is able to persuade them to assist the Planetary organization.
Warren Ellis comes up with some extraordinary ideas, like the design of the alien vessel that the “angels” use to leave Earth: it’s a spaceship that doesn’t really move in space, but rather absorbs surrounding information and reconfigures it in such a way that allows for the vessel to temporarily cease to exist and reconstruct itself beyond the planet’s atmosphere, leaving in its path an imperceptible amount of informational detritus, an excrement of sorts of data and figures that are useless to the ship.
The dramatic tension increases as the “angels” land on the huge object that threatens to destabilize Earth’s orbit. In there, they find a vast and complex ecosystem, that suggests that the original inhabitants of this massive structure have been extinct for millions of years, and somehow, nature has reclaimed this place. What seems to be the pilot’s chair, is now a fossilized formation, in the middle of an extravagant valley. Cassaday gives us a sense of size and dimension, by carefully placing mountains and a water cascade in this impressive setting.

A brilliant artist, Cassaday imbues every page with a unique atmosphere, surprising and captivating the reader with absolutely mind-blowing visual details. Nothing seems impossible in the hands of Cassaday, and even the most improbable alien creatures become real and tangible. A fascinating script by Ellis and top notch art by Cassaday turn this into one of the most spectacular Planetary issues.

Al no estar preparados para viajes interestelares, Snow y sus colegas deben reclutar a un trío de extrañas y poderosas criaturas llamadas “ángeles”. El artista John Cassaday crea un grupo de alienígenas melancólicos, visiblemente extraterrestres en sus rasgos, pero al mismo tiempo espantosamente humanos en sus actitudes y expresiones. Mantenidos en una jaula y alimentados con información las 24 horas del día, estos “ángeles” tienen una inacabable sed de conocimiento. Es debido a esta necesidad insaciable que Snow logra convencerlos para que ayuden a la organización Planetary.
Warren Ellis presenta algunas ideas extraordinarias, como el diseño de la nave alienígena que los “ángeles” usan para salir de la Tierra: es una nave espacial que no se mueve realmente en el espacio, sino que absorbe la información circundante y la reconfigura de tal manera que le permite a la embarcación dejar de existir temporalmente para luego reconstruirse más allá de la atmósfera del planeta, dejando en su camino una cantidad imperceptible de detritus informativo, una especie de excremento de datos y cifras que son desechados por la nave.
La tensión dramática aumenta cuando los “ángeles” aterrizan sobre el inmenso objeto que amenaza con desestabilizar la órbita de la Tierra. Allí, encuentran un ecosistema vasto y complejo, que sugiere que los habitantes originales de esta colosal estructura han estado extintos por millones de años, y de alguna manera, la naturaleza ha reclamado este lugar. Lo que parece ser la silla del piloto, ahora es una formación fosilizada, en medio de un valle extravagante. Cassaday nos brinda una sensación de escala y dimensión, colocando cuidadosamente montañas y una cascada de agua en este impresionante escenario.
