April comics / cómics de abril

April sure came with a lot of good surprised. For the first time in my life, I decided to buy a Marvel Omnibus, and I’m glad I did. Marvel Universe by John Byrne is an extraordinary edition that compiles the works of one of my favorite creators; there are over one thousand pages of Byrne art in here and each page is a true delight for me; I’m just thrilled to have this amazing hardcover in my possession. Millar did a satisfactory job with the final issue of Huck and the first issue of Empress. I really enjoyed Silver Surfer and Jupiter’s Circle. Bermejo’s new Suciders series was quite impressive. Providence continues to be one of the best miniseries and this particular issue has some really unforgettable moments. But the best issue of the month was The Fix # 1, I couldn’t stop laughing while reading this transgressive comic… can’t remember the last time I had so much fun with a first issue, which is why I’m giving Nick Spencer due credit for this awesome new series. And now, without further ado, here are April comics as per solicitations:

EMPRESS #1
(W) Mark Millar (A/CA) Stuart Immonen. Imagine you're married to the worst bad guy from your favorite sci-fi movie. An alien dictator feared throughout the universe, who will kill you if you leave -- but you need to escape for the sake of your three children. All you have are your wits, your bodyguard, and three guns. Welcome to EMPRESS, your new favorite comic. RATED T+

FIX #1 (MR)
(W) Nick Spencer (A/CA) Steve Lieber. A story of the crooked cops, scheming mobsters, and corrupt politicians that run things-and the sex toy that can bring them all down. Oh, and the hero is a drug-sniffing beagle named Pretzels. Bad people do bad things to each other in this frenetic, outrageous, sometimes off-putting new caper! If you liked classic crime comics like CRIMINAL and 100 Bullets we apologize in advance for letting you down!

HUCK #6
(W) Mark Millar (A/CA) Rafael Albuquerque. Huck and Orlov's final showdown!

JUPITER'S CIRCLE, VOL. 2 #6 (MR)
(W) Mark Millar (A) Chris Sprouse (CA) Frank Quitely. The team's adventures lead them down unexpected paths.

SUICIDERS: KINGS OF HELL.A. #1
(W) Lee Bermejo (A) Alessandro Vitti, Lee Bermejo (CA) Lee Bermejo. A whole generation has grown up since the Great Quake, and people like Trix and her brother Johnny don't know what life was like before New Angeles crumbled. Suffice to say, they've learned how to make the most of living inside the walled city, and particularly within their 'hood. Johnny is the leader of the Kings of HelL.A., a street gang ready to protect its turf against any and all comers-though Johnny may have taken things too far when he crossed Leonard, a former Suicider known as the Coyote. Things are about to get a whole lot more violent. Meanwhile, Trix is finding love in the arms of Johnny's best friend, and their star-crossed romance is going to bring trouble of an entirely different kind. The second chapter in Lee Bermejo's acclaimed SUICIDERS series shows us a completely different side of life in New Angeles. Joining Bermejo for KINGS OF HELL.A. is artist Alessandro Vitti (RED LANTERNS), whose kinetic style perfectly fits SUICIDERS' brutal landscape.

NEW ROMANCER #1 (MR)

SILVER SURFER #3

SUICIDERS: KINGS OF HELL.A. #1
