I think everyone is familiar with idealization. Idealization is, after all, what we always do. It is how we deal with the real, we adapt it in a way that can provides us with reassurance, with a certain logic. Philosophers like Zizek would affirm that, in fact, fantasy can be stronger than reality. Because, in the end, what is reality but an amount of statements and common sense that we all agree upon?

Cecilia, a waitress trying to survive in the middle of the greatest financial depression in America, lives a common life. She barely makes enough money to get by, she’s married to an abusive, alcoholic and jobless man. And she has no real future ahead of her, rather than spend her youth, her whole life washing dishes in the local diner.

Her only cheerful moments take place in the cinema. She goes every day and watches the same movie. For a couple of hours she feels transported into a world of glamour, of beautiful men and women, a world in which everything makes sense, a world where happy endings are possible. In an era of poverty, movies are the ideal escapism. Movies are a window that allows the impoverished people to see life not as it is but as it could or should be.

Woody Allen is not only a great director but also a true connoisseur of cinema. Hollywood’s films in the 20s relied deeply on spectacular images just as they do now, but what today is CGI (and explosions or big action sequences), decades ago was grand sets, hundreds of extras, complex choreographies, exotic scenarios and so on. That’s the kind of films that Cecilia has access to. And as enamored as she is with this world of richness and splendor, she must come to reality and accept the hardships of life.

That is of course, until Tom Baxter, the adventurer, the handsome hero from the film, starts talking to her through the screen. He knows she loves the movie, she’s been there every day. And he knows he loves her. And just like that, Tom Baxter is no longer a black and white, two dimensional character, he is now a person walking out of the screen and reaching out to her.

It happens in the movies, but it can also happen in real life: love at first sight. Cecilia and Tom are in love, but she doesn’t know how to deal with this strange situation. He is a fictional character, he has never been in the real world, and he carries a certain naiveté but also a certain magic, a sense of wonder that reminds her that being alive, and making choices, is all that matters.

With a very ironic venue, Woody Allen reminds us that Hollywood is a cruel machinery in which profits and lawyers are more important than directors or actors. And once that these businessmen realize that the impossible has happened in New Jersey, they decide to fix the situation. Giles Shepherd, the actor that plays Tom Baxter, is worried about having a duplicate of him running amok in the streets. He has a career to protect, a reputation to uphold. When he discovers that Cecilia knows where to find Tom Baxter he tries to convince his creation to return to the screen, where he belongs, but to no avail.

Psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan used to say that desire towards our ‘object a’ depends on the phantasm; which in a way means that the object of our desire is never ours, our thirst is never quenched and we are doomed to unsatisfactory pursuits, always. This happens because the object of desire comes to us mediated through a veil that conceals the real, and thus strengthens what in this case is only an idealized image, a reflection of something that doesn’t necessarily has to be there although that is all our eyes can see. Tom Baxter is the mirrored ideal that originates from Giles Shepherd, but at the same time, both are the ideal partners for Cecilia. One of them is fictitious and because of that he is also perfect; the other one is human, flawed, but authentic.

As the days go by, Cecilia falls in love with Giles, and dreams of leaving behind an awful reality, a mediocre existence. At the same time, she has some of the most amazing experiences of her life with Tom Baxter, as he takes her into the screen and into the very world she has always fantasized about. He takes her to the exclusive clubs and the mansions she had only seen in screen. He makes her know a new world, visually stunning; a black and white universe where things have a way of always working out in the end.

And then comes a moment, a moment in which she has to make a decision. Will she stay with Tom Baxter or Giles Shepherd? The character or the actor? The fiction or the reality? The ideal or the real? Making decisions is what makes us humans, but then again, pain, hunger, poverty and decay inevitably come with humanity. I won’t spoil the ending, but suffice to say that I have never seen a greater, sadder and more significant sacrifice than the one seen here. The Purple Rose of Cairo is truly one of the most magnificent classics ever.

Durante el año asisto a eventos de todo tipo, pero hay muy pocos que me entusiasman tanto como la cata de vinos argentinos en el club Las Palmas de Asia. Siempre me he considerado algo así como un enólogo neófito, aunque debo admitir que gracias a algunas charlas con Cristina Vallarino mi aproximación empírica a la vid y a sus frutos ha podido apoyarse en fundamentos teóricos un poco más firmes.

El tema del vino es fascinante, y no hace falta invertir demasiado tiempo o dinero para tener un conocimiento mínimo sobre el delicado balance de los taninos o las distintas variedades de uvas. Para los que hayan mirado las fotos de mis almuerzos, habrán podido comprobar que jamás falta una botella de buen vino.

Hace tres semanas, junto con la revista Asia Sur y todas las otras que aterrizan en las casas de Asia los fines de semana, llegó la invitación para la séptima cata de vinos. Así es que durante estas tres semanas estuve esperando con impaciencia a que llegara el sábado 28.

Este fin de semana extrañé a mi gran amiga Pamela Campos, a quien inmortalicé en las páginas de este cómic (lamentablemente tuvo que permanecer en Lima). Además, en la noche, Rodrigo decidió quedarse (y si estás leyendo esto que conste que hice lo posible para convencerte), pero por suerte pude acompañar a Richard Quantrill y a Ximena Castro de Quantrill (a quien pueden escuchar todos los sábados de 8 a 9am en Radio San Borja).

Pasamos una noche divertidísima, y probamos vinos que jamás se ofrecen en eventos como la Expovino de Wong. Y es que la diferencia entre la cata de vinos de Asia y la Expovino de Wong es abismal: En la Expovino participan un gran número de bodegas de diversos países, pero todas ofrecen sus líneas más básicas, vamos, lo más barato que tienen. Las líneas reserva o premium están sólo de ‘exhibición’. En la cata de vinos de Asia, por el contrario, no tienen ningún problema en ofrecerte vinos de 180 soles o más, y además de los mozos que van y te lavan las copas (algo que no sucede en la Expovino de Wong), tienes la mesa de quesos y embutidos de Don Mamino, y la infaltable parrilla argentina (aquí participan diversas marcas de carne y restaurantes de parrilla todos argentinos).

Entre los vinos que probé me gustaron el malbec reserva de Rutini, el merlot de la bodega Azul (no la conocía y fue una grata sorpresa), el shiraz de Cicchitti, el pinot noir de Fabre Montmayou, por supuesto el cabernet sauvignon gran reserva de Navarro Correas, también probé un agradable sauvignon blanc de bodegas Alta Vista y el chardonnay de bodegas Escorihuela. Además, como quien hace un buen maridaje, disfruté de un magnífico lechón a la parrilla, asado de tira y lomo fino, además de los habituales chorizos y quesitos gourmet.


Ximena y Richard se encontraron con varios amistades, y yo también me encontré con amigos, algunos que los conozco porque habíamos coincidido antes en esta cata de vinos, y otros que conozco de la PUCP, como Alberto de Belaúnde, con quien conversé brevemente.


Fue una de esas noches maravillosas que no quieres que se terminen nunca. De lejos, esto ha sido lo más divertido que he hecho en los últimos meses. Salud por ello.

Severed # 5 - Snyder, Tuft & Futaki

“I’m sorry, son. There are some duplicitous creatures out there… and you’ll come to find that women… they’re the worse”. As the creepy salesman travels along with 12-year-old Jack, he insists on denigrating women; time after time, he shows his contempt towards females.

As an impressionable and naïve young boy, Jack listens to every word this man says. But what is the salesman trying to accomplish here? Perhaps he wants Jack to feel uncomfortable around girls or perhaps he’s trying to severe the child’s last emotional ties to Samantha.

According to psychoanalyst Melanie Klein, there are “early destructive impulses directed against the body of the mother”. The sinister salesman is, thus, increasing Jack’s rejection towards his progenitors. After all, Jack had deserted his mother in search of his ever elusive father, but with no actual parental figures in his life this void is now dangerously occupied by a man who kills children and devours their innocent flesh.

Klein also wrote about the “genital anxiety of boys” which, in this comic book, is reconfigured in a rather unanticipated manner: as an underage prostitute attempts to seduce Jack, he is confronted with the awful images that the salesman has shared with him on many occasions. The prostitute is a 13-year-old girl almost deformed by the constant abuse and the insalubrity conditions of her surroundings, and Jack finds in her the dreadful creature described by the old man, he gazes upon the horror of the opposite sex…

Right after this traumatic encounter, Jack is assaulted by the prostitute’s handler, only to be rescued by the salesman. Before dying, the petty criminal accuses the salesman of being a sexual predator and makes a clear reference towards the victimization of boys.

In the previous issue we had seen the salesman boasting about his sexual prowess, his erotic escapades, and this came as a confession from an adult to a child, and this is why Jack entrusted him. According to Michel Foucault, the reason sexuality should be confessed is a legacy of the Christian tradition. In the past sexuality wasn’t an obvious or strong presence, but rather something treacherous, something only to be found by careful introspection. Therefore every detail had to be laid forth in confession; every trace of pleasure experienced had to be examined to find the traces of sin. This is what the salesman has done and ever so successfully, but now this stratagem turns against him.

During the incident, two unexpected hindrances find their way into the evil man’s plans. First of all, Jack’s reaction towards the possibility of sexual intercourse with a girl, and then the accusations of the prostitute’s handler regarding the man that Jack trusts with his life. As Foucault explained, making sexuality something sinful did not make it disappear. Quite the contrary: it was reinforced and became something to be noticed everywhere.

Now that the doors are open, Jack starts looking at this man in a different way. Can he still confide in a man that may have ulterior motives for helping him? Can he protect himself without the support of his friend Samantha? And how can he escape if the salesman gives him drugs at night to keep him asleep until morning? All of these questions should be answered in the next issue of Severed.

"Lo siento, hijo. Hay algunas criaturas realmente traicioneras... y descubrirás que las mujeres... son lo peor". Mientras el siniestro y viejo vendedor viaja con Jack, un niño de 12 años, insiste en denigrar a las mujeres; una y otra vez, muestra su desprecio hacia ellas.

Jack es un chico impresionable e ingenuo, y escucha todo lo que este hombre dice. ¿Pero qué es lo que el vendedor intenta conseguir? Tal vez desea que Jack se sienta incómodo con las chicas, o tal vez intenta cercenar su vínculo emotivo con Samantha.

De acuerdo a la psicoanalista Melanie Klein, hay "impulsos destructivos tempranos dirigidos contra el cuerpo de la madre". El siniestro vendedor está incrementado el rechazo de Jack hacia sus progenitores. Después de todo, Jack había abandonado a su madre en busca de su elusivo padre, pero sin ninguna figura paterna en su vida, este vacío es peligrosamente llenado por un hombre que mata niños y devora esa carne inocente.

Klein también escribió sobre la "ansiedad genital de los chicos" que, en este cómic, es reconfigurada de una manera bastante inesperada: cuando una prostituta menor de edad intenta seducir a Jack, él es confrontado con las imágenes horrendas que el vendedor ha compartido con él en muchas ocasiones. Aquí, la prostituta es una niña de 13 años casi deformada por el abuso y las condiciones de insalubridad de su entorno, y Jack ve en ella a la terrible criatura descrita por el viejo, se trata del horror del sexo opuesto...

Justo después de este traumático encuentro, Jack es asaltado por el jefe de la prostituta, y rescatado por el vendedor. Antes de morir, el criminal acusa al vendedor de ser un depredador sexual y hace una clara referencia a la victimización de muchachos.

En el número anterior, habíamos visto al viejo vendedor presumiendo de sus proezas sexuales; fue una confesión de un adulto a un niño, y gracias a ella Jack confió en él. De acuerdo con Michel  Foucault, la razón por la que la sexualidad es confesada es un legado de la tradición cristiana. En el pasado, la sexualidad no era una presencia obvia ni fuerte, sino más bien algo traicionero, algo que sólo podía encontrarse gracias a una cuidadosa introspección. Por lo tanto, cada detalle debía ser relatado en la confesión, cada instante de placer experimentado debía examinarse para encontrar los rastros del pecado. Esto es exactamente lo que ha hecho el vendedor, pero ahora esta estratagema se vuelve en su contra.

Durante el incidente, dos contratiempos estorban los planes de este malvado sujeto. En primer lugar, la reacción de Jack ante la posibilidad de tener sexo con una chica, y luego las acusaciones del proxeneta hacia el hombre en quien Jack confía. Como explicó Foucault, hacer que la sexualidad fuese pecaminosa no la hizo desaparecer. Todo lo contrario: fue reforzada y se convirtió en algo que se notaba más que nunca.

Ahora que las puertas están abiertas, Jack empieza a ver a este hombre de manera distinta. ¿Todavía puede confiar en alguien que guarda motivos ocultos? ¿Puede protegerse sin el apoyo de su amiga Samantha? ¿Y cómo puede escapar del vendedor si es que le da drogas en la noche para mantenerlo inconsciente hasta la mañana? Todas estas preguntas deberían ser respondidas en el próximo y penúltimo número de Severed.

Miracleman # 4 Alan Moore & Alan Davis

As Miracleman calms down and enjoys nature, there is a substantial amount of activities he could never predict. For instance, the dual personality of Bates starts to cause commotions inside his mind, will he wake up from the comma? And if he does, how will Miracleman defeat his former sidekick?

In Watchmen or V de Vendetta, Alan Moore usually included interludes, which at first seemed only like brief detours from the main plotline but that would subsequently acquire more relevance. The same happens in this series, in moments such as the conversation Miracleman has with a little kid.

In the 50s, Frederick Wertham said that Batman and Robin were the ultimate gay fantasy, and he also accused Wonder Woman of being a lesbian. Because of their asexuality, superheroes were seen as suspicious characters (although this situation has changed in recent years). When this young boy finds Miracleman, clad in tights, he immediately asks him “Are you a poof?”. Moments like this could easily be seen as inconsequential, but the fact of bringing up subjects that would never be discussed in other comic book in the 80s is, indeed, quite pertinent.

Nonetheless, as Miracleman returns home he realizes Liz has been kidnapped and all hell breaks loose. Miracleman is still the mightiest mortal on Earth, and if his wife doesn’t appear he’s willing to destroy entire cities as long as he finds her. Evelyn Cream talks to his previous employers to make sure they don’t have her.

The fourth issue ends with a tale of the Miracleman Family, in which we see Miracleman, Young Miracleman and Kid Miracleman in one of their common adventures in virtual reality. They cannot know it’s all a dream, but as it’s discovered by the scientists monitoring their process, subconsciously the three supermen are fighting to wake up. “The Red King Syndrome” is a fascinating oneiric voyage, lavishly illustrated by John Ridgway, famous for his run in Hellblazer. Over 20 years later, we can find similar scenes in films such as “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” in which the protagonist gets his past erased, even though he fights in his subconscious, while he’s asleep, to retain the memories most dear to him.

Mientras Miracleman disfruta calmadamente de la naturaleza, ocurren hechos relevantes que él nunca podría predecir. Por ejemplo, la personalidad dual de Bates empieza a causar conmociones dentro de su mente, ¿despertará del coma? Y si es así ¿qué podría hacer Miracleman en contra de su antiguo aliado?

En “Watchmen” o “V de Vendetta”, Alan Moore solía incluir interludios, que al inicio parecían solamente breves bifurcaciones de la línea argumental central pero que luego adquirirían gran relevancia. Lo mismo sucede en esta serie, por ejemplo, cuando Miracleman conversa con un chiquillo.

No obstante, al regresar a casa Miracleman descubre que Liz ha sido raptada y eso lo enloquece. Es el mortal más poderoso del mundo y si su esposa no aparece está dispuesto a destruir ciudades enteras hasta encontrarla. Evelyn Cream habla con sus antiguos jefes para asegurarse que ellos no son los responsables.

Este cuarto ejemplar termina con un relato de la familia Miracleman, en donde vemos a Miracleman, Young Miracleman y Kid Miracleman en una de sus aventuras típicas en la realidad virtual. Ellos no pueden saber que se trata de un sueño, pero los científicos que los monitorean se dan cuenta que, a nivel inconsciente, los tres superhombres están luchando por despertar. "El síndrome del rey rojo" es una fascinante travesía onírica, ilustrada creativamente por John Ridgway, famoso por su etapa en Hellblazer. Más de 20 años después podemos encontrar escenas similares en películas como “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” en donde el protagonista borra su pasado al tiempo que lucha en su inconsciente, mientras duerme, por retener sus más queridos recuerdos.

Conan the Barbarian # 17 & 18 - Roy Thomas & Gil Kane

After 16 uninterrupted issues of grand-scale adventures and fantastic art, Barry Windsor-Smith was temporarily off Conan. He would return on issue # 19 but in the meantime he was replaced by a well-known artist who had worked for Marvel and DC: Gil Kane.

“The Gods of Bal-Sagoth” (August 1972) begins with a shipwreck, barely escaping from hungry sharks, Conan swims to a seemingly deserted island. Nonetheless it’s there that he finds the ship’s former captain: Fafnir, a red-haired Vanir, the same man he attacked not a mere winter ago, in the crowded streets of Shadizar the Wicked (Conan the Barbarian # 6).

It had been stated that the Vanirs and the Cimmerians had often fought against each other, but whereas the barbarians had always fought with honor the red-haired combatants had mercilessly slaughtered children and women. This is why, in Conan the Barbarian # 1, the young Cimmerian decides to join forces with the Aesir of golden locks to help them defeat the conniving Vanirs.

There is an ancestral hate between Cimmerians and Vanirs, and although Fafnir needs Conan’s assistance to survive in this abandoned island, the young barbarian refuses the possibility of an alliance. They’re both experienced and strong warriors, and after a fierce battle, Fafnir decides to give up, willing to sacrifice his life so that Conan may prove, or disprove, his point about the vileness of the Vanirs: “And as Conan’s eyes meet the giant’s half-mirthful gaze… as he glimpses the faint beginnings of a respectful smile which curl a whiskered lip… the bloodlust leaves him”.

As an unexpected truce between natural foes commences, a young woman’s scream startles them. It comes from Kyrie, an exiled girl from Hyrkania. Conan and Fafnir rescue her, taking her to the city of Bal-Sagoth. Because of her phenotype, Kyrie had been confused with Aala, a revered goddess, until Gothan, the city’s high priest, had discredited her.

“The Thing in the Temple!” (September 1972) begins with Kyrie having recovered her condition as a goddess and the faith of the people of Bal-Sagoth. There are many political intrigues fueled by Gothan and his minions. After all, gaining a throne is not as easy as keeping it. The Cimmerian and the man from Vanaheim decide to help the girl, but before long she betrays them and wants them killed. At the same time, a long forgotten prophecy comes true, and a cataclysmic volcanic eruption obliterates the city and its inhabitants.

Again, the only two survivors are Conan and his comrade Fafnir, drifting along the sea in a precarious raft. It’s then that they’re rescued by Yezdigerd, prince of Turan, who is on his way towards a holy war that will become one of the most important historic events in the Hyborian age. Conan and Fafnir are quickly drafted… it’s not like they have a choice, they either swear to serve under Yezdigerd’s commands or they are left to die in the sea.

In Conan the Barbarian # 1 it had been prophesized that one day Conan would be crowned king, now the young barbarian has in his hands the emblem of kingship, stolen from Gothan’s dead body. Fafnir looks at it in awe and admits that Conan is a king, although the Cimmerian quickly contradicts such affirmation: “Yes… a kingdom of the dead, which is fading in the morning sky. But maybe therein it is like all other empires of the world, Fafnir. Just smoke… and ghosts… and the stuff of dreams”.

Luego de 16 ejemplares ininterrumpidos de aventuras a gran escala y fantástico arte, Barry Windsor-Smith estuvo temporalmente ausente. Regresaría en el # 19 de Conan pero, en el ínterin, fue reemplazado por un conocido artista que había trabajado para Marvel y DC: Gil Kane.

“Los dioses de Bal-Sagoth” (agosto de 1972) empieza con un naufragio, Conan escapa con las justas de los hambrientos tiburones y nada a una isla aparentemente desierta. No obstante, allí encuentra a Fafnir, un vanir pelirrojo, el mismo hombre que había sido atacado apenas un invierno atrás, en las populosas calles de Shadizar la Perversa (Conan the Barbarian # 6).

Se sabe que los vanires y los cimerios han peleado a menudo entre sí, pero mientras los bárbaros siempre han luchado con honor, los combatientes de pelo rojo habían masacrado sin piedad a mujeres y niños. Es por ello que, en Conan the Barbarian # 1, el joven cimerio decide apoyar a los asires de rizos dorados para derrotar a los taimados vanires.

Hay un odio ancestral entre cimerios y vanires, y aunque Fafnir le pide a Conan que trabajen juntos para sobrevivir, el joven bárbaro rehúsa la posibilidad de una alianza. Ambos son guerreros fuertes y experimentados, y luego de una feroz batalla, Fafnir decide rendirse, dispuesto a sacrificar su vida para que Conan pueda demostrar la vileza de los vanires: "Y cuando los ojos de Conan se posan en la mirada medianamente alegre del gigante... cuando percibe el tenue comienzo de una respetuosa sonrisa que aligera un labio con bigotes... la sed de sangre lo abandona".

La inesperada tregua entre enemigos naturales empieza, y entonces el grito de una mujer los alerta. Viene de Kyrie, una chica exiliada de Hirkania. Conan y Fafnir la rescatan y la llevan a la ciudad de Bal-Sagoth. A causa de su fenotipo, Kyrie había sido confundida con Aala, una diosa reverenciada, hasta que Gothan, el sacerdote de la ciudad, la había desacreditado.

“La cosa en el templo” (setiembre de 1972) inicia con Kyrie que ha recuperado su condición de diosa y la fe del pueblo de Bal-Sagoth. Hay muchas intrigas políticas dirigidas por Gothan y sus secuaces. Después de todo, ganar un trono no es tan fácil como conservarlo. El cimerio y el hombre de Vanaheim deciden ayudar a la chica, pero en poco tiempo ella los traiciona y ordena que sean ejecutados. Al mismo tiempo, una profecía olvidada se hace realidad, y una cataclísmica erupción volcánica arrasa con la ciudad y sus habitantes.

Nuevamente, los únicos sobrevivientes son Conan y su camarada Fafnir, que flotan en el mar en una precaria balsa. Es entonces cuando son rescatados por Yezdigerd, el príncipe de Turan, que está en camino a la guerra santa que será uno de los eventos históricos más importantes de la edad hiborea. Conan y Fafnir son rápidamente reclutados... no tienen mayor elección, o juran obediencia a Yezdigerd o son dejados en el mar para morir.

En Conan the Barbarian # 1 había sido profetizado que un día Conan sería coronado rey, ahora el joven bárbaro tiene en sus manos el emblema de la monarquía, robado del cadáver de Gothan. Fafnir lo mira con asombro y admite que es un rey, aunque el cimerio rápidamente contradice dicha afirmación: "Sí... un reino de los muertos que se desvanece en el cielo mañanero. Pero quizá así sean todos los otros imperios del mundo, Fafnir. Sólo humo... y fantasmas... y la sustancia de los sueños".

December comic books / cómics de diciembre

December was basically a month for trade paperbacks and hardcovers, and floppies of course! I really enjoyed Kick-Ass # 6 and Avengers Children’s Crusade # 8. Defenders #1 was actually quite a pleasant surprise, a bit reminiscent of Gaiman or Morrison’s earlier works for DC, Matt Fraction creates a very interesting first issue (definitely one of the few promising titles from Marvel in 2011).

Severed # 5 and Witch Doctor Resuscitation continue to be on my favorites list, and this time I got a letter published in Witch Doctor (more on that on a future post). The Strain #1 had a solid script but the art was too sloppy for my tastes. I plan on reviewing The Unwritten which, in my opinion, is the best Vertigo series in years. Gaiman’s Sandman, however, remains as the best Vertigo title ever published. I wanted to read Gaiman’s Books of Magic since I was in high school and I finally ordered it, it sure deserves a review. Anyway, December’s list is here, as per solicitations. Just judging by the covers what do you like? And what don’t you like? 

By the way, a few months ago I talked briefly about Kirby Genesis by Kurt Busiek, Alex Ross and Jack Herbert, feel free to read the first two issues here and then come back to tell me what you think of them, I really like them but I’d like to hear your opinions.

Diciembre fue básicamente un mes de tomos recopilatorios y en tapa dura, y números sueltos, desde luego. Realmente disfruté con Kick-Ass # 6 y Avengers Children’s Crusade # 8. Defenders #1 fue una verdadera sorpresa, con ligeros toques que me recuerdan los primeros trabajos de Gaiman y Morrison en DC, Matt Fraction crea un muy interesante primer número (definitivamente uno de los pocos títulos prometedores de Marvel en el 2011).

Severed # 5 y Witch Doctor Resuscitation continúan en mi lista de favoritos, y esta vez me publicaron una carta en Witch Doctor (queda como tema para una próxima ocasión). The Strain #1 tiene un guión consistente, pero el arte es demasiado flojo para mi gusto. Planeo escribir un comentario sobre The Unwritten que, en mi opinión, es lo mejor que ha habido en Vertigo en años. El Sandman de Gaiman sigue siendo el mejor título alguna vez publicado por Vertigo. Había querido leer Books of Magic de Gaiman desde que estaba en secundaria y finalmente lo compré, también merece una reseña aparte. En fin, aquí está la lista de diciembre. Solamente mirando las portadas, ¿qué es lo que les gusta? ¿Y qué no?

Por cierto, hace algunos meses hablé brevemente sobre Kirby Genesis de Kurt Busiek, Alex Ross y Jack Herbert, siéntanse con total libertad de leer los primeros dos números aquí y luego regresen para decirme qué les pareció, a mí me gustaron bastante pero quisiera escuchar sus opiniones.
